Kiwi

Picture
Forever loved, after 15 months on this journey, sweet little Kiwi
peacefully passed on November 17th in the arms of her momma and pappa. She was surrounded and supporting by so many loved ones
.
***********************************************************************

This website is dedicated to our precious and spunky daughter Kiweila “Kiwi”. Kiwi was gently brought into this world away from the hospital and lived a very natural and organic life.  Kiwi is a beautiful, bright and strong little girl who is full of determination
and spirit. She enjoys playing mom to her little brother and to everyone else for that matter, especially if that means she can boss you around. Kiwi was also diagnosed with a brain tumor in late July, 2010.  She has undergone five surgeries two were brain (tumor resections), one central line placement, a cerebral fluid leak repair of the dura (lining of her brain) and also a g-tube placement, numerous MRI's and CT scans, alternative treatments, a non-toxic Clinical Trial in Texas, and also high dose Chemotherapy with stem cell rescue.

All of our lives have taken a dramatic shift since her diagnosis, with a new purpose and focus. Which
leads to the other reason for this website, to draw more attention to, and to share the information we find about childhood cancer, especially focusing on complementary and alternative approaches. Before starting chemotherapy we did massive research regarding treatment options. Kiwi was initially accepted into a Clinical Trial using antineoplastons, this treatment was an ideal choice for us because it was non-toxic, and had credible research and a medical support team behind it to guide us through the many trials and tribulations that come along with such an in depth treatment protocol. Unfortunately this treatment wasn't effective enough in slowing Kiwi's cancer growth. At that point we chose to go forth with chemotherapy. Kiwi received 5 rounds of chemotherapy. She was intended to receive a sixth round of high dose Chemotherapy, but an MRI revealed some enhancement in the tumors that could potentially be signs of growth . We were advised not to move forward with the sixth round inside of how difficult chemo had been for Kiwi. We have been advised against radiation at this time because of its guaranteed side effects and brain damage and with this enhancement a bigger chance of not being effective. We have been following many other stories and seen children go through these treatments and still have the cancer come back.  After being with Kiwi through Chemotherapy and witnessing the horrific experience it was at times for her, at this point we do not want that for Kiwi. We have started Kiwi on many natural protocols that are listed throughout the website.

We research everyday and add credible options here as time allows. We have believed, even from the beginning, before Kiwi was diagnosed, that our bodies have the amazing ability to heal and we are commited to finding the best path in getting there. Whether her condition was the result of some sort of exposure to a toxin, physical/developmental issues or emotional trauma; valid and non-toxic cures, remedies etc. are out there.  If research, funds and our attention could be put into that aspect, and spreading the word about these possibilities, I think we would see dramatic changes in many areas of treatment, especially for children. With this said, it has not been an easy journey to say the least. No matter how much you believe in your truth, when it is tested, you will be pushed to your limit, and we are pushed everyday
with Kiwi and the decisions that we have to make, choices I never imagined we would have to face, especially as frequently as we do. Kiwi has brought so many lessons to us and allowed us to grow and blossom into new parents, parents with more patience, love, trust, passion and gratitude. Please, also be aware that since we are still on this journey with Kiwi, immersed in it every moment, we do have limited time to be spending on the internet. So, although we are constantly finding new things, our days are filled with rebalancing Kiwi; adding, shifting, evaluating and re-evaluating, etc. (we also have a one and a half year old little boy, Faun).   We can see as Kiwi continues to heal, our lives will provide us with more time to contribute to what has become a very important cause for our family. Honestly I find myself believing, that even though there are different "types of diseases and/or cancers", and a common thread is apparent, each individual has their own unique reason as to why this has 'come to them' and their own unique journey and healing process.

Our beliefs are truly tested every day and we may wavier but Kiwi’s light keeps pulling us back in to the spiral dance of life. Please look throughout the website as we are adding, changing and updating, as time allows.  We have a more detailed story of Kiwi’s journey, here on 'Kiwi’s Story' page, if you care to spend a little time there, it will give you an idea of what we have been through since this began. We encourage anyone to do their own research as well, to come up with what feels the best to you, there can be many extremely difficult decisions to make.

*The focus of this website is surrounded around sharing Kiwi's Story, connecting with others in similar situations and raising awareness around childhood cancer, so that authentic alternatives and support for already developed conventional therapies can be researched and found. There is unquestionable room for improvement and research for children’s treatments and supportive care. These children are amazing bright beings; they shine through the darkness of the fears and doubts of these diseases and treatments.  Please read more of Kiwi’s story as you look through her website.

***We have made it this far, and able to focus all of our attention on Kiwi's emotional and physical needs, by the generous and heartfelt giving from so many family, friends and even strangers.  Our feelings of gratitude are endless .....
